If you are having issues with your advanced product filtering on your collection pages in any of our themes, please make sure you have read our help article, watched our tutorial video, and have followed all the steps for proper use. If you still can't pinpoint the issue, here are a few common problems and their solutions.
Filters not appearing at all
If no filters are appearing on your collection pages, you should make sure to check the following:
- That your products are properly tagged in the format Filter_Filter Name (e.g. Color_Blue)
- That you have added all possible filter categories in the comma separated list on your collection page settings. There should be no spaces between the comma separated categories, and the case should match (e.g. Color,Size,Fabric)
- That if you are using menus to create a custom order for your filters, that these menus should contain all possible filter options
Some filters are appearing but not all
It should be noted that only filters that are relevant to the current collection of products will appear in the sidebar. So if you navigate to a collection page and some of your filters are missing, it is likely because there are no products in this particular collection that have those tags. A good way to see if all your filters are working properly is to go to your "all products" page (yourstore.com/collections/all). Since this is showing all products, it will also show all available product filters.
Another thing to check is if you have added all of your filters to a menu. Our themes give you the ability to set a specific order for your filters by adding navigation menus. For example, if you have a filter called "Color," all the color tags you add will appear alphabetically by default. By creating a menu called "Color," you could then specify the order you want for the filters in this menu. Note that all possible filter options must appear in this menu in order for them to appear on your site. So if you forget to add one of the menu, it won't appear.
Filters appear, but do not work as expected
If your filters are behaving strangely or don't seem to work despite being visible, please ensure that your product tags themselves do not include any non-English or special characters, such as @, #, %, &, ^, *, ", ', etc. These characters are not supported in Shopify tags and can break the filtering function.
