The Pursuit theme has fairly standard options for the header, but there are a few settings that require a bit of explanation. This article is designed to help clear up any questions you might have about setting up your header and navigation.
Header styles
Firstly, the theme includes three header styles to choose from:
Logo next to navigation
Logo next to search
Centered
Choose the option that looks/works best for your navigation structure. You can change these options any time in the Header section settings.
Mega menu options
Pursuit supports two types of mega menus, which are multi-column menus. These types of menus are great for larger merchants who have lots of product categories. You can add a mega menu to any link in your primary navigation menu, which will result in a horizontal display, or you can create a separate categories menu that shows in a vertical display.

Creating a mega menu
The first step to create a mega menu is to setup a nested navigation menu. There is a great guide on how to do this in Shopify's help center. For best results, add two, three, or four submenus below at least one menu item and add some links to each one.
Once that's done, you need to tell the theme which link you want to appear as a mega menu. To do this, in the Header section settings, add a Mega menu block as shown below.
The block settings for the mega menu will appear. In these block settings, you need to type in the name of the menu item you'd like to show as a mega menu. The name you type in must match the name of one of the parent items in your navigation menu (for example, Catalog). This is also where you will choose your optional images with headings and text that will appear on the right side of the menu.
Creating a categories menu
If you'd like to create a vertical categories menu as shown in our Aspen and Vail theme demos, you will want to create a separate nested menu for this. From there, you just need to assign this menu to the Categories menu setting in the Header settings. From there, add a Category navigation block to your header in the same manner as mentioned above. In those block settings, you'll be able to change the text and add the optional image to this menu. The position of this button will vary depending on which header display option you choose. Check our demos to see how it looks.
Search options
Pursuit not only comes with live search capabilities (which shows relevant search results as the user types), but also some handy options to help your customers see some popular products and search terms before they even start typing!
To populate the Popular Searches area of the live search box, simply create a navigation menu with links to whatever you'd like to display and then assign this menu in the Popular searches menu setting. Likewise, to populate the Popular Products area, simply choose a collection (or create a new one) that contains the products you want to show here and assign it in the settings.
More header options
There are some more options that affect the header in the Theme Settings area of your theme customizer. Access this by clicking this link in the lower-left corner of your settings browser. You can change the appearance of the cart icon in the header here, select some additional search settings, and more, so be sure to check there for more options!
